We read a great line today: 'We're not leaving Europe, just the European Union'. We still love all things continental, including the wonderful produce and flavours brought to our shores from places such as France, Greece and Italy. So this story about fresh mozzarella being made just a short walk from North Acton station caught our eye.
Run by passionate Italian Simona Di Vietra, the small team at La Latteria has been hand-producing the silky Italian cheese in W3 since February 2016. In those 6 months, business has boomed. La Latteria products are already being used by Michelin-starred restaurants including Dabbous and Hibiscus, as well as Social Eating House and Granger & Co.
We also love the fact the milk used by the team is from a Surrey farm, produced by the same breed of cow that Di Vietra's family use in Milan.
So next time you're dashing for the train at North Acton, steal yourself to think about the cheese experts who are busy shaping, braiding and knotting mozzarella right on the doorstep.
And just five minutes’ walk from North Acton station, opposite an imposingly ugly Holiday Inn hotel, is where Simona Di Vietri, founder of La Latteria, runs her new London mozzarella business, which started trading in February 2016.
