London Mayor Sadiq Khan has warned that London could seek a separate agreement on immigration to enable companies to continue to recruit skilled staff from the EU post-Brexit, in a speech to the Institute of Directors (IoD).

The Mayor agrees that businesses need to retain access to a skilled talent pool, which includes hiring from the EU, and plans to hold a summit in early 2017 to consider proposals from business leaders.

Today around 616,000 from the EU work in London, equivalent to 12.5% of the workforce in the capital, with over 49,000 in the financial and insurance sector alone.
